MB&F สานต่อตำนานนาฬิกา Horological Machine 8 ด้วยรุ่น Mark 2 ใหม่

โลกแห่งยานยนต์เป็นแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างสรรค์ให้กับ MB&F มาโดยตลอด ดังจะเห็นได้จาก Horological Machine 5 เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2012 ก่อนที่จะมี Horological Machine X ตามออกมาในปี ค.ศ. 2015 และในที่สุดจึงเป็น Horological Machine 8 ในปี ค.ศ. 2016 โดยผลงานทั้งสามรุ่นนั้นมีดีไซน์แนวล้ำสมัยแบบย้อนยุคและบอกว่าด้วยตัวเลขในสไตล์เดียวกันกับมาตรวัดในรถยนต์อยู่ทางด้านหน้าของตัวเรือนซึ่งดูคล้ายกับนาฬิกา Amida Digitrend แห่งยุค 70
คุณแม็กซิมิเลียน บุสเซอร์ ผู้ก่อตั้ง MB&F เพิ่งจะมาเยือนกรุงเทพมหานครเมื่อไม่กี่วันก่อนนี้เพื่อนำเสนอ HM8 รุ่นที่สองด้วยตนเอง และยังเฉลยให้เราหายสงสัยด้วยว่าชื่อ Mark 2 นั้นเป็นคำที่ยืมมาจากภาษารถจริงๆ และเป็นการใช้ชื่อ Mark 2 ครั้งแรกของแบรนด์ MB&F เขากล่าวว่า “มันเป็นภาษารถจริงๆ นั่นแหละครับ เหมือนอย่าง Jaguar Mark 2 เครื่องที่ใช้ใน HM8 Mark 2 เป็นเครื่องรุ่นเดียวกันกับที่ใช้ใน HM8 รุ่นแรกจากเมื่อ 7 ปีก่อนทุกประการ เราเอาตัวเรือนใหม่มาห่อหุ้มเครื่องที่มีอยู่แล้ว ดังนั้นเราจึงเห็นสมควรที่จะเรียกผลงานรุ่นใหม่นี้ว่า HM8 Mark 2 ซึ่งเราจะเรียก HM11 ไปเลยก็ได้ แต่ผมคิดว่ามันไม่เหมาะสมที่จะเรียกอย่างนั้นเพราะว่าเราใช้เครื่องรุ่นเดียวกันกับ HM8 ดังนั้นนี่คือเวอร์ชั่นที่สองเท่านั้น ไม่แน่วันหนึ่งอาจจะมี Mark 3 ก็ได้ซึ่งผมยังไม่ได้ออกแบบหรอกนะแต่ก็ไม่แน่เหมือนกัน”
HM8 รุ่นแรกนั้นมีองค์ประกอบที่ดูคล้ายโรลบาร์อยู่ทางด้านข้างเพราะว่าออกแบบโดยใช้แรงบันดาลใจจากรถแข่ง Can-Am หรือ Canadian American Racing Championship แต่ HM8 Mark 2 นั้นมีความโค้งมนและเรียบเนียนมากกว่าเพราะหันไปมองที่ Porsche 918 Spyder เป็นต้นแบบสำหรับรูปลักษณ์แทน ตัวเรือนชั้นในผลิตจากไทเทเนียมเพื่อความแข็งแกร่งและประสิทธิภาพในการกันน้ำแต่ก็ไม่ลืมเปิดด้านบนให้มองเห็นเครื่องที่ผลิตจากเบสของ Girard-Perregaux และมีโรเตอร์รูปขวานศึกของ MB&F ที่ผลิตจากทอง 22 กะรัตและทำหน้าที่ขึ้นลานจนเต็ม 42 ชั่วโมง
ตัวเรือนชั้นนอกของ HM8 Mark 2 นั้นผลิตจากวัสดุคาร์บอนมาโครลอนและมีให้เลือกสองสีด้วยกัน หากเลือกตัวเรือนชั้นนอกเป็นสีเขียวบริติชเรซซิ่งกรีนก็จะได้โรเตอร์เป็นสีเร้ดโกลด์ และมีการจำกัดจำนวนการผลิตเพียงแค่ 33 เรือนเท่านั้น ส่วนอีกรุ่นหนึ่งคือรุ่นตัวเรือนชั้นนอกสีขาวซึ่งจะมาพร้อมกับโรเตอร์เคลือบสีเขียวด้วยกระบวนการซีวีดีและผลิตแบบไม่จำกัดจำนวน ทั้งสองรุ่นสวมใส่ด้วยสายหนังลูกวัวสีตัดกับตัวเรือน กล่าวคือ รุ่นตัวเรือนชั้นนอกสีเขียวจะสวมใส่ด้วยสายหนังสีขาว และรุ่นตัวเรือนชั้นนอกสีขาวจะสวมใส่ด้วยสายหนังสีเขียว หัวเข็มขัดของสายผลิตจากไทเทเนียมเหมือนกันทั้งคู่
HM8 เป็นนาฬิกาที่บอกเวลาในรูปแบบที่เจ้าของเห็นอยู่คนเดียว เพราะว่าตัวเลขชั่วโมงและตัวเลขนาทีนั้นจะอยู่ทางด้านของตัวเรือน (ด้านที่หันเข้าหาตัวเจ้าของนาฬิกา) ดังนั้นจึงทำให้อ่านค่าเวลาขณะที่มือจับอยู่บนพวงมาลัยของรถได้ด้วย การแสดงค่าชั่วโมงของนาฬิการุ่นนี้เป็นระบบจั๊มปิ้งอาวและการแสดงค่านาฬิกาเป็นระบบสวีปปิ้งมินิทผ่านทางจานหมุน 2 จานที่ติดตั้งในระนาบนอนแนบไปกับตัวเครื่อง จากนั้น MB&F ก็ใช้ชุดแซฟไฟร์ปริซึมเพื่อสะท้อนภาพขึ้นมาให้เจ้าของนาฬิกามองเห็นตัวเลขในแนวตั้งอย่างชัดเจนผ่านทางหน้าต่างทั้งสอง จานตัวเลขชั่วโมงและจานตัวเลขนาทีนี้ที่จริงแล้วก็เป็นแซฟไฟร์ด้วยเช่นกัน แต่มีการเคลือบสีดำด้วยกระบวนการเมทอลไลเซชั่นโดยเว้นไว้เฉพาะบริเวณที่เป็นตัวเลข จากนั้นจึงใช้สารซูเปอร์ลูมิโนว่าเคลือบตามแนวตัวเลขจากทางด้านหลังของแผ่นแซฟไฟร์เพื่อให้ตัวเลขนั้นเรืองแสงเมื่อเข้าสู่ที่มืด

The world of automobile has always been a major source of inspiration for MB&F, ever since the Horological Machine 5 in 2012, the Horological Machine X in 2015 and then the Horological Machine 8 in 2016. Those creations carried with them a retro-futuristic design with a speedometer-style time display on the front of the case that was reminiscent of the Amida Digitrend of the 1970s.
Just a few days ago, MB&F’s Founder Maximilian Büsser was here in Bangkok to present the second interpretation of the HM8. He confirmed that the Mark 2 designation, used for the very first time by MB&F, is a car speak, “Of course, it is a car thing, like a Jaguar Mark 2. The movement of HM8 Mark 2 is exactly the same movement of HM8 original seven years ago. We reclothed completely the existing movement so it seems fair for us to call it HM8 Mark 2. If we called it HM 11, which we could have, I don’t think it would be right because it was the same movement as HM8. This is the second iteration. Maybe one day there will be a Mark 3. I haven’t designed it yet, but why not.”
While the original HM8 was shaped after the Canadian American Racing Championship or Can-Am race cars with their unmistakable roll bars, the HM8 Mark 2 looks to the Porsche 918 Spyder instead as inspiration for its coachwork. A titanium chassis provides the needed structural integrity and water resistance, while also revealing a view of the Girard-Perregaux-based movement and its MB&F battle axe winding rotor in 22K gold that works to build up a power reserve of 42 hours.
Two choices of coachwork are offered on the HM8 Mark 2. Firstly, you can have the body panel in British racing green CarbonMacrolon and the rotor in red gold, but this is a limited edition of only 33 pieces. Secondly, there is the equally attractive white CarbonMacrolon body panel version with green CVD rotor, which is not a limited edition per se. The two versions are worn on a contrasting white or green calfskin strap, respectively, with a titanium tang buckle.
Time is a personal matter with the HM8. The hour and the minute are displayed digitally on the front of the case, facing the wearer, which means they are instantly visible to him while his hands are on the steering wheel. The indications comprise a jumping hour disc and a sweeping minute disc which lie flat on the movement. Sapphire prisms are cleverly used to reflect the numbers off of them, resulting in the vertical display in the two windows. Note that the hour and minute discs themselves are also sapphire. They are selectively coated in black using a metallization process to leave the numerals clear, and then Super-LumiNova is applied underneath the disc to give the hour and the minute the necessary lume.
