ขอพักงานเขียนนาฬิกามาเปลี่ยนบรรยากาศด้วยการเขียนเรื่องอะไรเบาสมองบ้างนะครับ เมื่อเช้านี้ครับเมื่อเช้า ผมนั่งอ่าน New York Times อยู่แล้วเจอข่าวหนึ่งที่อยากเอามาบอกเล่าต่อให้คุณผู้อ่าน Luxuo ได้ร่วมดีใจกันกับมารายห์ แครี่เมื่อเพลง All I Want for Christmas is You ของเธอขึ้นสู่อันดับหนึ่งของชาร์ท Billboard Hot 100 ในที่สุดหลังจากที่วนเวียนอยู่ในสารบบเพลงของโลกมาเป็นเวลานานถึง 25 ปี ตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1994 ซึ่ง New York Times เองระบุว่านี่เป็นเพลงที่ใช้เวลาในการขึ้นถึงอันดับหนึ่งนานที่สุดในประวัติศาสตร์ และเป็นเพลงเกี่ยวกับเทศกาลคริสต์มาสเพลงแรกในรอบ 60 ปีที่ขึ้นสู่อันดับหนึ่งของชาร์ทดังกล่าวด้วย
ก็ถือว่าเป็นสีสันกันไปนะครับ ตัวผมเองก็ไม่ได้มีอะไรผูกพันกับเพลงนี้หรอก ส่วนตัวชอบ Miss You Most at Christmas Time จากอัลบั้มเดียวกันมากกว่าเพราะว่ามันเศร้าดี ฟังแล้วหลอนนิดๆ โดยเฉพาะถ้าปิดไฟและอากาศเย็น แต่ก็นั่นแหละ เข้าช่วงคริสต์มาสทั้งทีก็ควรจะเบิกบานกัน ดังนั้นจังหวะสนุกๆ ของ All I Want for Christmas is You จึงตอบโจทย์ของสังคม แถมเนื้อเพลงก็ยังขาวสะอาด ฟังได้ทุกวัยทุกเพศ จึงเข้าทำเนียบเพลงคริสต์มาสสมัยใหม่ได้แบบไม่มีข้อครหาใดๆ

และนี่คือเวอร์ชั่นล่าสุดที่มีชื่อว่า “Make My Wish Come True” ของปี 2019 นี้
ตามข่าวบอกว่าที่เพลง All I Want for Christmas is You ขึ้นสู่อันดับหนึ่งได้ในครั้งนี้เป็นเพราะแรงเสริมที่มาจากบริการสตรีมมิ่งเพลงต่างๆ ที่ทำให้คนรุ่นใหม่และคนจำนวนมากเข้าถึงเพลงนี้ได้อย่างง่ายดาย ข้อมูลของ Nielson Music ที่เปิดเผยก่อนหน้านี้ก็สอดคล้องกันโดยระบุว่าในช่วงคริสต์มาสของปี ค.ศ. 2014 มีคนกดฟังเพลงนี้ 12.6 ล้านครั้ง จากนั้นในปี ค.ศ. 2016 ก็เพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 61 ล้านครั้ง แล้วยังไปต่อถึง 185 ล้านครั้งในปี ค.ศ. 2018

Let me write about a non-watch topic for a change. As I idly browsed through the pages of New York Times this morning, I discovered something trivial yet fun to know: Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You finally rose to Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, 25 years after its release in 1994. It is, according to the newspaper, “the song that took the longest to do so” and the first Christmas track to take the top spot in 60 years.
While my preference is Miss You Most at Christmas Time from the same album, it is quite wistful and melancholic (I have a penchant for something sad), unlike this upbeat and festive single which has rightfully made its way into the canon of modern Christmas music. Well, what’s not to like about it? It is simple, joyful, clean and dare I say, timeless.
This late rise to the top is said be credited to the growing popularity of music streaming services which in turn make the song available to a new and wider audience more easily. Nielson Music previously published data stating that the streams of the said song during the Christmas period have risen from 12.6 million in 2014 to 61 million in 2016 and 185 million in 2018.
All I Want for Christmas is You is Carey’s 19th Number 1 song. According to The Guardian, she is only one track behind The Beatles whose holds the record of 20 Number 1 songs presently. So, Merry Christmas to all Luxuo readers. Your writer may now go back to his drooling over his next watch purchase. All he wants for Christmas is a watch, obviously.
