Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red

In commemoration of the centennial of WWI, 888,246 ceramic flowers (each representing the British military fatality) were planted around the tower of London. Led by ceramic artist Paul Cummins and stage designer Tom Piper, the installation consists of red poppies flowing out of the tower into the famous moat surrounding it. The installation, titled “Blood Swept lands and Seas of Red”, was set up by volunteers several weeks ago and the poppies will be gradually planted through the summer. The last poppy will be symbolically planted on November 11th to commemorate armistice.
