In one of fashion’s latest trends, luxury brands are opening up their secret ateliers for hands-on masterclasses. Gucci is joining in with a new three-day “artisan corner” at Bloomingdale’s in NYC.

June 6 to 9, Bloomingdale’s on 59th street in New York City will be welcoming craftsmen and women from the label’s ateliers to assemble handbags, personalize silk scarves and monogram leather bags including the popular New Bamboo, Soft Stirrup and Soho bags.

Bloomingdale’s executive vice president Francine Klein was excited by the partnership; the event “will bring this unique and time-honored craftsmanship to customers outside of the house’s own store for the first time,” she said.

It’s a growing trend: just this month, French luxury brand Hermès hosted a free “Festival des Métiers” at London’s Saatchi Gallery, which saw the company’s artisans picking apart the secrets of their trade.
